TILT – Never Ending Story

The Toulouse-born artist TILT was one of the first to begin translating the formal language, energy, and inspiration of style writing into non-figurative art. Since the turn of the century, his artistic vision has been shaped by varying proportions of these two distinct modes of modern painting.
His formative years as an artist operating within the urban landscape introduced further influences that would come to define his work; his pieces frequently incorporate elements borrowed from our immediate environment, and his painting surfaces often consist – at least in part – of construction materials. His generally open-minded and observant approach to life in the metropolis serves as one of the fundamental prerequisites for post-vandalism – the artistic movement with which his work is associated.

In his exhibition “Never Ending Story” – and the accompanying book of the same title – he demonstrates that his engagement in this field is by no means a one-way street. Just as the “outside” inspires the “inside,” the reverse holds equally true: while style writing may enrich non-figurative art, abstract art, in turn, serves as an immensely fertile source of innovation for style writing itself. Through his latest works, TILT illustrates that the wheel of innovation continues to turn ceaselessly – and that inspiration, being infinite, can neither be halted nor confined.
