Bio

RAGE – Thousand Wonderful Things

The artistic body of the Hamburg painter RAGE revolves around trains. Over the decades, he has repeatedly taken on new positions with several series of works and, by incorporating different techniques, has increased his possibilities for creating pieces on his preferred object. In many cases, this leads to paintings that, depending on the technique chosen, take a lot of time to prepare and can involve a great deal of effort overall.

If you look at the concrete visual result on the rolling stock in question, the letters of his name RAGE or RACHE seem to serve almost only as a backdrop for a new perspective on the overall design. The composition may seem light and playful in its construction, but it indicates that RAGE does not accept the given circumstances and offers us a different way of looking at things.

His artworks are very often created under difficult conditions, and by this, we do not mean the illegal aspect in general, but the imponderables that come with the illegality. Due to unforeseeable events, a work can often take several attempts before it is finally satisfactorily applied to the metal and, in the final step, perfectly captured in a photograph.

Taking into account everything that was said before, it applies perfectly to his “Thousand Wonderful Things.” Collecting the printed corrugated plastic posters with their political messages, the hours and days that RAGE must have spent cutting the stencils, and dragging the whole thing in and out of the train yard to create the desired optimum work of art, must have been an exhausting procedure that the exhibition presented here aims to make tangible.
